LOOKING TO JESUS

Hebrews Sermon Series

March-August 2019

Fletcher Seventh-day Adventist Church

Why study the Letter to the Hebrews? Have you ever known a person who turned away from the church and from Christ, who simply walked away? Perhaps you have struggled to conserve and keep up your own Christian commitment in the face of disillusionment, confusion, or loss of conviction. The letter to the Hebrews was written to first-century Christians who were distracted from Jesus, cooling off in their faith, or on the verge of giving up. Inspired by the Holy Spirit the writer renews our vigor by pointing us to Christ. He provides light to help struggling Christians see Jesus clearly. Never has the Book of Hebrews been more needed for Adventist Christians than now.

Suggestion: Read and study the passage assigned for the week preceding the scheduled date. Join one of the groups that meet during the week to discuss the passage. Then come to church on Sabbath and hear the sermon based on that passage.

As you study privately, ask and answer three simple questions to deepen your understanding: 1. “What does this passage say?” Answer by coming up with one sentence that captures the gist of the whole passage. 2. “What does this passage say about God/Jesus?” Be succinct and to the point. 3. “What does this passage say about me?” Hear God speak to your needs through His Word. Then, let the Holy Spirit lead you to someone during the week with whom you can share what God has taught you.

Recommended resources: 1. The Holy Bible: The Book of Hebrews, 2. E. G. White, “Christ In His Sanctuary.” 3. George R. Knight, “Exploring Hebrews.”

These details will be printed in the weekly church bulletin and online on our website; fletchersda.org.
